So why the Diary?
Since leaving the military and becoming an empty nester, I have very much struggled with 'my purpose' in life. Turning 45 and realising (if I'm lucky) that I was half way through this little life of mine, I sensed that it was useless surrounding myself with questions and those feelings of no self-worth. It was time to just get on with it.
Big or Small - Do it all! Is now my motto.

My main inspiration for this undertaking, is my Paternal Grandfather.
In 1999, my Grandad published a book about his life called, "From Tied Cottage to Ivory Tower". In this book was a reflection of his life to date. For any budding Genealogist, this book was also an invaluable source of information and a looking-glass into our social history.

Well perhaps there is no need to just yet. Sometimes our history is better to let mature like a whiskey, undisturbed. But then there is also a good argument to know everything now.
I was grateful to receive a few mini diaries from my Grandfathers collection. And in there, is a code of sorts, and torn out pages. 70 years later, we can only guess as to why.
So I will leave the reading up to you.
